The all new 2012 S60 is Volvo's continuation into a new styling direction. The S60 continues in its new design DNA towards a more slender, more curvy, and streamlined design, while still maintaining a four-door coupe roof line. The S60 promises to be sportier and more dynamic, with sweeping and elegant lines, yet still recognizably a Volvo.
The 2012 Volvo S60 T5 sedan features a powerful, turbocharged, inline five cylinder engine with an output of 250 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque mated to a 6-speed Geartronic transmission, while the six cylinder T6 offers 300 horsepower. Along with the Dynamic Stability and Traction Control, the 2012 Volvo S60 offers the Advanced Stability Control system, providing even greater control to help prevent skids. Also available is Corner Traction Control, allowing drivers to take corners more tightly and making it easier to retain control when driving on winding roads or wet surfaces. The 2012 Volvo S60 comes standard with a driver control interface with a seven-inch screen and steering wheel controls; the navigation system features voice control.
The newly designed S60 is a leader in its sedan class. "Customers in this segment want emotional appeal, sport design, and dynamic driving properties, and the all-new S60 is sculpted to move you. It looks and drives like no other Volvo before, and the car's technology will help you to be safer and more confident behind the wheel," says Stephen Odell, President and CEO of Volvo Cars.
Pedestrian Safety System
Available on the 2012 Vovlo S60 is the Pedestrian Safety System, which goes beyond simple warning devices for impending collisions: It was designed to actually take control of the car to prevent accidents. The system is part of a new generation of safety and a logical iteration of the famed Volvo City Safety system. It is able to identify pedestrians and bicyclists in front of the vehicle using a video camera at the top edge of the windshield and a radar system mounted in the front grill. The system automatically brakes and stops the car to prevent collisions with pedestrians at speeds up to 15.5 miles, thus avoiding accidents caused by distraction and inattentiveness. The system has advantages over the human eye, as it does not need to deal with blind spots and uses sophisticated algorithms to judge whether a person is likely to jump in front of the car. This technology is an important step in designing cars that do not crash and help prevent the 43 percent of traffic fatalities involving pedestrians.

Now Available Through the Port Installed Accessory Program
The 2012 Volvo S60 now has an option for a Front Blind View Camera. If you've experienced the frustration of not being able to see around corners, this camera is for you. The system features a front-grill mounted camera that provides a 180 degree view, allowing the driver to see around corners and past buildings and bushes.
The
system utilizes a camera mounted in the front grill, and images are
displayed in the standard 7" monitor located in the upper part of the
center console. Images are shown as a split screen, so you can see both
the left and the right. The system is activated by pressing a button
in the center stack, but switches off at speeds above 10 MPH.
