Charging an electric Volvo in New Jersey

Most EV owners do almost all of their charging at home and use fast chargers only for road trips. Here is how it works.

At home (Level 2)

A 240-volt home charger is the easiest way to own an EV: plug in at night, wake up full. Volvo partners with Qmerit for certified home charger installation, and we can point you to the right setup for your garage or driveway.

On the road (DC fast)

Both the EX60 and EX90 use 800-volt systems built for high-power DC chargers. Set a charger as your destination and the car preconditions the battery on the way, so you spend less time plugged in.

Tesla Superchargers

Volvo EVs support the North American Charging Standard (NACS), opening 29,000+ Supercharger stations. The EX60 plugs in directly; the EX90 uses the included adapter. We'll show you how at delivery.

One app for public charging

The Volvo Cars app finds, starts and pays for charging across more than 120,000 public charging points in the U.S., including networks like ChargePoint and EVgo.

EV taxes and incentives in New Jersey

A lot of what you read online about EV savings in New Jersey is out of date. Here is where things stand.

Ended

Federal EV tax credit

The federal clean vehicle credit of up to $7,500 does not apply to EVs acquired after September 30, 2025. Volvo lease offers, financing specials and programs are now the main ways to lower your cost.

6.625% applies

NJ sales tax on EVs

New Jersey phased out its zero-emission vehicle sales tax exemption, and EVs have been subject to the full 6.625% state sales tax since July 1, 2025. The state also charges an annual EV registration fee.

Up to $4,000

Charge Up New Jersey

The state's point-of-sale incentive is $1,500 on eligible new battery-electric vehicles with an MSRP up to $55,000, plus $2,500 more for income-qualified Charge Up+ applicants, while funding lasts. Volvo's current new EVs start above that cap, so ask us which vehicles qualify.

The bottom line: today, the best EV savings come from Volvo's monthly lease and finance offers. We'll run the real numbers for your situation, including tax.

Volvo EV questions, answered

Volvo's new electric lineup in the U.S. is the midsize EX60, starting at $59,795 MSRP, and the three-row EX90, starting at $78,090 MSRP. Both prices include the $1,395 destination charge. The EX30 and EX40 are no longer sold new in the U.S. but are available pre-owned at Prestige Volvo Cars East Hanover.

The EX60 P10 AWD has an EPA-estimated range of up to 330 miles and the P6 up to 307 miles. Volvo estimates up to 400 miles for the P12 AWD, which arrives in 2027. The EX90 is EPA-estimated at up to 305 miles with AWD and up to 291 miles with the Single Motor. Real-world range varies with temperature, speed, wheels and driving style.

Yes. Volvo's electric cars support the North American Charging Standard (NACS), which opens more than 29,000 Tesla Supercharger stations. The EX60 has a built-in NACS port, and the EX90 comes with a NACS Fast Charging Adapter.

On a high-power DC fast charger, the EX60 can charge from 10 to 80 percent in as little as 16 minutes and the EX90 in as little as 22 minutes, with the battery preconditioned. At home, most owners plug into a Level 2 charger overnight and start each day with the range they need.

It isn't required, but it makes ownership much easier. A 240-volt Level 2 charger lets you charge overnight, and Volvo works with Qmerit for certified home installation. If home charging isn't possible, public fast charging and Tesla Superchargers fill the gap, or a Volvo plug-in hybrid may be a better fit.

No. The federal clean vehicle credit does not apply to EVs acquired after September 30, 2025. Volvo lease offers, financing specials and programs are now the main ways to reduce your cost, and our team can walk you through what's available this month.

Yes. New Jersey phased out its zero-emission vehicle sales tax exemption, and EVs have been subject to the full 6.625% state sales tax since July 1, 2025. New Jersey also charges an annual EV registration fee.

Charge Up New Jersey currently offers $1,500 at the point of sale on eligible new battery-electric vehicles with an MSRP up to $55,000, plus $2,500 more for prequalified Charge Up+ applicants, while funding lasts. The EX60 and EX90 currently start above that MSRP cap. Ask Prestige Volvo about the eligibility of any specific vehicle.

Volvo recommends bringing a fully electric Volvo in for service at least once every two years. Volvo covers the first recommended service on the 2027 EX60 at 2 years or 25,000 miles and on the EX90 at 2 years or 20,000 miles, whichever comes first. Prestige Volvo's service line is 973-553-4282.

Yes. Prestige Volvo Cars East Hanover is taking EX60 orders and reservations. Volvo expects P10 AWD deliveries to begin in fall 2026, with the P6 and P12 AWD following in 2027. Early U.S. supply is limited, so reserving early is the best way to secure one.

Choose the EX60 if you need five seats and want the most range and fastest charging. Choose the EX90 if you need a third row, six or seven seats, or the most cargo space. Prestige will bring a test drive of either to you so you can compare at home.

Prestige Volvo Cars East Hanover is at 285 Route 10 East, East Hanover, NJ 07936, minutes from Parsippany, Morristown, Florham Park and Livingston. We offer complimentary delivery anywhere in New Jersey or New York City. Call 862-289-0004.
