LED headlights with our signature “Thor’s Hammer” daytime running lights give the S90 a strong identity, and give you clear vision at night. Range-topping Full-LED Active High Beam Illumination technology automatically switches between low and high beams to give you the best light coverage without dazzling other road users. It also includes Active Bending Lights that turn in the same direction as the steering wheel (up to 30˚ in either direction) to give a better view through corners.

Standard Comfort seats provide exceptional support, and optional Contour seats include power-adjustable side bolsters and extending seat cushions. Passengers in the rear get the same levels of comfort, with optional heating and plenty of legroom, thanks to the long wheelbase and the front seats’ slim design.

The power of touch
The standard 9” Sensus Touchscreen is laid out in a portrait format and uses bold, clear graphics so that you don’t have to scroll as much, making maps easy to read and apps easier to access. The surface of the center display is also specially coated to reduce glare and can be used wearing gloves.
Intuitive interaction
Intuitive technology runs deeper than the center display with touch screen – and this easier interaction with the car’s main controls and infotainment makes every journey a pleasurable experience. As well as the clear digital driver display, the head-up display projects information onto the windscreen in front of the driver so there’s no need to take your eyes off the road. Voice control allows you to operate climate control, navigation, media and phone using natural speech and without the need to use set phrases or commands.
An extension of your phone
With Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, connecting your smartphone to the S90 is quick and easy. Just plug it in and the 9" Sensus Touchscreen becomes an extension of your smartphone. Access your music, messages and make calls, using voice control to talk to your phone’s personal assistant. While the phone is plugged in to the USB port it is charging and you can still see the car’s other functions on the touch screen, as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto only use the lower half of the display.
Driving Technology & Safety
Help when you need it
Pilot Assist helps to reduce some of the effort required when driving in heavy traffic. It helps to keep the S90 at a set speed and distance to the vehicle in front, and uses steering inputs to keep you in the center of your lane. Pilot Assist works at speeds up to 80 mph, so it’s especially helpful on faster roads.
Park in perfect clarity
Four cameras create a bird’s eye view of your car’s surroundings that appears on the center touchscreen with our 360˚ SurroundView Camera. Available at speeds up to 8 mph, it’s great when you’re in a tight space and can’t see clearly what’s around you.
Perfect Parking
Park Assist Pilot makes parking effortless, every time. As you drive by potential spaces, the system assesses the size of them and alerts you to any that your car will fit into. All you need to do is follow the car’s instructions with the accelerator, gears and brakes, and your S90 will do the rest, steering you into a parallel space just 1.2 times the length of the car.

An extra eye on the road
Protecting people – whether inside or outside the car – is the aim of City Safety. This Volvo Cars innovation looks out for potential danger by using radar and camera technology to identify other vehicles, cyclists, pedestrians and large animals ahead, day or night. If City Safety detects an imminent collision, it alerts the driver and can automatically apply the brakes if the driver doesn’t react in time. This can help avoid or mitigate a collision. Steering Support is also part of City Safety, an innovation that helps the driver to steer away from danger as effectively and safely as possible.
Stay On Course
Accidents where a vehicle leaves the road are one of the most common types. Volvo Cars’ Run-off road Mitigation helps make these less likely to happen by detecting if the car is about to leave the road unintentionally between speeds of 65-140km/h. It can then use steering and braking to guide the car back onto the right path. In the event of a car leaving the road, Run-off Road Protection – another Volvo Cars innovation – reduces the chances of serious injury. The front seat frame absorbs the impact of a hard landing on the body, while optional variants of Volvo Cars safety belts automatically tighten.
